As we stood in Gene and Carol's living room, Gene asked one of his guests to pick up Katalina no.2, which was
leaning against the wall, now a finished work of art in metallic copper. "Now see, that don't weight
nothing, does it?" he laughs. "That's what we're making the mermaid of, like that one, fiberglass. It weighs
nothing, and you can't hardly break them."
The first two productions of Katalina are sisters of sorts, coming from the exact same mold. "We're probably only gonna have two, cause that mold's going kind of screwy." "You might be the smartest man on earth, or the dumbest man on earth," Gene retorts. My wife and I are planning to have Gene sign the piece, and number it. We'll even take a picture of him doing that. I said then that not everyone has recognized Gene and his body molds, but we feel he is a unique artist worldwide. "You're gonna be more famous when you're dead then, is that what he means?" Carol asks Gene. "Don't give her any ideas," Gene shot to me, causing their living room full of guests to bust out in laughter. "You gotta let me get at least of few of these made first."
